![]() ![]() Though it was kind of nice to be able to see at least part of the play. Nagisa and Tomoya could have fallen in love without the whole weird destiny thing. They got rid of most of the supernatural stuff which I think was the right call given the time constraint but it just made the dreams and the play feel more out of place. Everything felt rushed too but that's not surprising given they were trying to squeeze it into 1.5 hours. And they constantly used weird effects (probably to save on animation budget) and it was distracting. But the quality of the animation and character designs and even the music was a steep step down for me. I was surprised to find out that every single character in the movie had the same English VA as the show did, which was kind of nice. But that's an experiment I'm glad wasn't tested, I think it would run afoul of an ethics board or something. ![]() If I had seen the movie first I wonder what my opinion would be. So I feel bad just saying outright that the movie was bad, but i dunno it kind of was imo. Like I think the show has instilled in me a pretty strong bias towards anything that feels like it doesn't live up to that standard. What's up with that? Doesn't Key need to hand out licenses or something, why would they let them run back to back like that?Īnyway, I don't think it's possible for me to think about this movie without comparing it to the series, and that just feels kind of unfair. I looked it up and this movie was released less than a month before the series started airing.
